Mom’s Halibut Recipe
I remember the first time I had this meal and it blew my socks off! My mother-in-law made this Braised Orange marmalade Halibut recipe and I don’t even like Orange Marmalade but in this case I couldn’t get enough. This is a recipe that you have to try if you like Halibut or any white fish for that matter. I’ve done this with Lingcod as well and its an absolute banger!
Braised Orange Halibut / Lingcod Recipe
This recipe is pretty straight forward and hard to screw up (which is perfect for me). The recipe uses a braised cooking approach so the meat is covered (all or partial) in a simple sauce in the oven or BBQ.
Ingredients
- 4x portions of Halibut / Lingcod (roughly 30 ounces)
- 1 cup Mayo
- 1/2 cup Orange Marmalade
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon Green Curry Paste
- Salt & Pepper
- Chopped Green Onion
Instructions
- Set Oven or BBQ to 400F
- Combine and mix well all the ingredients (excluding the Halibut & Chopped Green Onions)
- Place halibut pieces into your favorite oven pan (can use aluminum container if using BBQ)
- Cover the halibut with sauce. The fish shouldn’t be 100% drowned in the sauce, but it doesn’t hurt to have too much sauce in my experience!
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until fish is flaky. Halfway through the cooking process, I like to spoon sauce from the side onto the fish at least once. IMPORTANT: With thicker pieces of fish this can easily be a 20-25 minute cook, so keep an eye on your fish.
- After cooking, garnish with green onion. My wife likes to cook the green onion, so you can add with the initial mix, it all depends on how you like your green onion.
Extra Pairing ideas for Halibut
You need to pair this with some rice that’s a must. I personally like using making Coconut Rice for this dish. And also some grilled vegetables finishes it off nicely with some beauty colors. And if you’ve got extra time (and extra fish), sometimes I’ll toss some salmon on the side as well.
The white sauce in this dish is so tasty that it pairs so well with the rice and fish. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
