Alberni Inlet Fishing Locations

Here are some popular fishing spots in the Alberni Inlet also known as the Alberni Canal. And local anglers will call "the inside". "The Outside" would refer to Barkley Sound and Bamfield areas at the south end of the inlet. The Alberni Inlet is roughly 54 km (34 miles) long and is a skinny inlet from Barkley Sound that ends northward at Port Alberni.

Alberni Harbour Quay - Boat Ramp

Boat ramp with free public parking immediately beside it. This is just south of Alberni Harbour Quay.

Hoik & Hohm Islands

Between Hoik island and Hohm islands are great places to intercept staging salmon moving into the Somass River.

Marked by a big red and white lighthouse on the point.

Salmon Hot Spot

Hot Spot for Salmon in August to October.

Canal Waterfront Park

If you're launching a kayak or canoe, this is a good place to put in. There is free parking and a quick in/out access to the water and fishing grounds!

Lone Tree Point

This is a good section for where the inlet fishing starts to pick up. On both the north and south sides of this point produces some excellent salmon fishing.

Stamp Narrows

"The Narrows" is a narrow section in Alberni Inlet next to Lone Tree Point. This location is often a marker for water directions or context to fishing locations.

Cous Creek

At the mouth of Cous Creek fish the drop off. Best fishing times for Salmon are July to October.

China Creek

China Creek Campground has Tent & RV Sites, Cabins & a Marina. This is one of the most popular fishing areas in the inlet. For more information on China Creek Campground: https://campchinacreek.com/

North Bay off China Creek

North bay area near China Creek. A hot Salmon spot from July to October. Also a popular spot for Sockeye Salmon from June to August.

Underwood Cove

South bay area near China Creek. A hot Salmon spot from July to October. Also a popular spot for Sockeye Salmon from June to August.

Dunsmuir Point

Across the inlet from China Creek. A hot Salmon spot where eddy currents form. Best fishing for Chinook July to October and Sockeye Salmon from June to August.

Macktush Creek Mouth

Out front of the Macktush creek mouth and down to the campground provides good spots for targeting salmon. Best fishing times is August to September for Salmon.

Fishing close to shore off in front of the Macktush Creek Campground can be very productive. The water drops off pretty quickly from the campsite shore, look for Chinook anywhere from 35-60 feet of water.

Nahmint Bay

At the mouth of the Nahmint river the bay drops off into the deeper section of the inlet. Fish the top and middle section of the drop off. This is a good holding section for Salmon from August to September. May also come across some  Steelhead staging in front of the Nahmint River.

Ten Mile Point

Across from the Nahmint River & Bay is Ten Mile Point. The drop off is quick much like a narrow wall.

Spencer Creek

Good salmon fishing off the turn in the inlet and out from mouth of Spencer Creek.

Pocahontas Point

Good salmon fishing along the top section of the inlet elbow off Pocahontas Point.
